What Do All Successful Diets Have In Common
For a diet to be successful, it must meet the basic requirements for weight loss. This is the condition due to which you can lose weight even with the worst food, and on the other hand, with the healthiest food, you can gain weight.
This is the rule of “caloric deficit” or to put it a little differently, spend more calories than you take in in a day. Failure to meet this condition is why many diets that contain only healthy foods do not help you lose weight. It is simply impossible to lose weight if you consume 2500 calories a day and burn only 2000.
Appetite control
A very important point in any successful diet is to be persistent enough to achieve the desired results. If a certain diet you follow makes you hungry, it will be a torture that you will not endure for a long time.
It is expected that with each change in the diet, there will be a certain adaptation period of about a week that you will have to endure. But if a certain diet leaves you hungry even after that period, you will not be able to sustain it for a long time.
That’s why those diets that control your appetite with foods that are low in calories and full of water are successful. If you’ve already guessed, it’s about the huge quantities of fresh vegetables. Nowadays there are a million diets, but in all of them, vegetables occupy the main place.
On the one hand, there is the vegan diet, which prohibits any intake of food of animal origin, and on the other hand, we have the paleo diet, where meat and eggs are consumed several times a day. But the only common thing between these two diets is precisely the vegetables.
Tip: Eat two salads every day and then you won’t have room in your stomach for bad food.
Food that is always forbidden
-
Processed food
You must have noticed that processed foods are not part of almost any diet. If it is allowed, then it is very rare and in tiny quantities.
This is for two reasons:
Artificial additives and preservatives – If you read the composition of any canned food, you will always come across several ingredients that you do not recognize. These are the artificial emulsifiers, flavorings, and preservatives that harm you in more ways than one:
They contain chemicals that are harmful to the body, they contain a lot of calories in a small amount, they artificially improve the taste, thus increasing your appetite and in the long term, they entice you to reach for such food more often.
They contain too many calories in a small package – With this alone, it is very easy to exceed your daily caloric intake and not meet the basic requirement for weight loss, the caloric deficit.
To be clear this includes: fast food, processed canned food, and food with extreme artificial flavors. By extreme tastes, we mean too bland or too salty food.
-
White flour
White flour is not good to consume for two reasons:
Gluten – although the number of people who are very allergic to gluten is very small, gluten slows down the digestion of food and in most of the population it slows down the metabolism.
High glycemic index – Any food with a high glycemic index causes an excessive rise in insulin in the blood, which can lead to diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and many other cardiovascular problems (read more about what the glycemic index is here).
-
White sugar
The problems with white sugar are as follows:
The highest glycemic index – as we mentioned above, foods with a high glycemic index contribute to an increased risk of several metabolic disorders such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, etc.
Drug addiction – frequent consumption of sugar causes addiction. A study was done where the brain activity of people was observed before eating sugar while eating and after eating sugar.
At the end of the study, it was observed that eating sugar activates the same pleasure centers in the brain as when taking cocaine. This is also the reason for drug addiction, which is every day for more and more people.
-
Liquid calories
We all know that sodas are full of sugar and in many situations are one of the main causes of weight gain.
But don’t be fooled into thinking that juices that are declared to be 100% natural are really “healthy” and “natural”, because these juices are also full of calories and hidden sugars.
If you look at the label, you will notice that these juices have the same number of calories as the carbonated ones. Another problem is that “healthy” juices are drunk much faster than carbonated drinks.
-
Alcohol
Our body considers alcohol to be a poisonous substance, and after entering the body, it immediately begins to process it. The worst combination is excessive drinking of alcohol in combination with high-calorie food.
In such a case, our body is too busy rushing to expel alcohol from the blood, so there is no time to process the food. Since alcohol also contains calories that are different from those of nutrients, the body uses them as energy and stores the energy and calories from food in the form of fat deposits.
